Rick and
Jaquie Wile again opened
their beautiful Norfolk home to us for our annual Soup Party.
Twenty members and their significant others gathered for our
yearly soup-eating marathon. This year the ladies outdid
themselves with a very diverse and ample selection of soups,
stew, and chili. Each offering was presented in a crock pot with
the pots (all 16 of them) displayed along the Wile’s ample
counters, table, and stovetop. I tried to gather up all the
labels at the end of the evening and here in no specific order
is a list of the soups: Spicy Chicken, Turkey Vegetable, Beef
Stew, French Onion, Turkey Meatball, Hot Taco, Lobster Bisque,
Cheese and Meatball Soup, Corn Chowder with Sausage, Tex-Mex
Corn Chowder, Gingered Squash & Pear Soup, New England Corn
Chowdah (sic), Turkey Chowder, Shrimp Creole, Caribbean Black
Bean, Celery Soup and Chili Con Carne. I may have missed a
couple. To go with the soups we had ample bowls of salad and
fresh breads. And of course, everyone’s favorite libation.
During the evening we all watched a slide show
of EMCC photos from 2007 and years past which played
continuously on Rick’s wide-screen TV. We were entertained by
Jaquie’s "Girls", five doe that came to browse in her back yard
totally oblivious to our presence at the windows. And finally,
we all got to comment on three new hairdos sported by Mal, Gina,
and Maureen.
It was a great evening. We can’t thank the Wiles enough for
hosting us again.
